We all need a little sweetness in our lives.
One of the key ingredients in all our drinks is British grown beet sugar, mainly grown by farmers in East Anglia and the East Midlands of England. The sugar beet tuber is turned into granulated sugar by the company British Sugar, who built the first UK sugar beet factory in Cantley, Norfolk over 100 years ago in 1912.
We are proud use this high quality, home grown product which has significantly less food miles than cane sugar and is British Red Tractor Assured.
Although we use real sugar, our drinks are not sugary-sweet. We add 7% beet sugar to our other natural ingredients to compliment the sharpness of the Scottish raspberry and citrus zests we use. Sugar also gives a well rounded ‘mouth feel’ to our drinks, helping to give them body without being syrupy.
With the introduction of the UK Sugar Tax, many soft drinks companies have moved toward using artificial sweeteners in their drinks in order make their drinks exempt from the tax. However, we believe that a small amount of an all natural sugar is better than using an artificial, essentially chemical, source of sweetness.
